COMPOUND WORDS: A STUDY ON PSALM IN THE BIBLE

This study is purposed to find the types of compound words based on Lieber’s
theory (2009) and to find out meanings of compound words based on Palmer’s
theory (1976). This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method.
In collecting the data, the writer reading Psalm in the Bible, highlighting the
compound words, listing the compound words and dividing the information into
categories of compound words. In analysis the data, the writer arranging the
information, recognizing the information from Psalm in the Bible according to the
kinds of compound words, verifying and confirming all, describing and going over
the many kinds of compound words and drawing conclusion from Psalm in the
Bible as a result of the study. The source of the data of this study from Psalm. The
data was taken are all compound words taken from A Study on Psalm in the Bible.
The results show that there are 3 types of compound words found in Compound
Words: A Study on Psalm in the Bible, namely attributive compound words consist
of 39 data, coordinative compound words consist of 1 data and subordinative
compound words consist of 36 data. And there are 2 meanings of compound words
namely transparent compound words consist 13 data and opaque compound words
which consist of 11 data.
