ABSTRACT
Ginting, Elvina Damayanti, An Exploration of Triangular Love in the Main
Characters of Redeeming Love’s Movie Script. A Thesis: Department of Language
and Literature. Universitas Methodist Indonesia. Medan. 2025
This study analyzes the portrayal of love in the film Redeeming Love (2022) through
Robert J. Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love (2006), which consists of intimacy,
passion, and commitment. Using a descriptive qualitative method and library
research approach, data are collected from the film’s screenplay and visual narrative.
The analysis focuses on the relationship between the central characters, Angel and
Michael, revealing how each element of the theory is represented throughout the
story. The study shows that love is depicted as a redemptive and transformative
force, especially in the context of trauma and healing, and highlights how film can
powerfully depict emotional growth and cultural representations of love and
redemption.
Keywords: Redeeming Love, Sternberg’s Triangular Theory, intimacy, passion,
commitment
