Department of English Language and Literature, Fakultas Sastra, Universitas Methodist Indonesia, Medan. This study is cultural word translation in The Pursuit of Happyness movie Script. The writer used the qualitative method by using the translation procedure of cultural words by analyzing them based on the theory of translation procedures of cultural words by Javier Franco Aixela. The study of this research revealed that there are thirty-five data of cultural words were classified into ecology, material culture, social culture, and organization-custom-ideas and from the eleven procedures only four of them are suitable and frequently cultural words, such as repetition, orthographic adaptation, intratextual gloss and naturalization. Nevertheless, the most suitable and frequently used is the naturalization procedure. This study proves that in order to omit the gap between source culture and target culture, the explanation of the cultural terms using some descriptions is necessary and the naturalization procedure is the most suitable one to transfer the meaning of cultural terms of source language in which its equivalence cannot be found in target the language.
