CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MAIN CHARACTER AND MORAL VALUES IN HAYAO MIYAZAKI’S MOVIE SPIRITED AWAY

The characterization of the main character Chihiro and to find out how the writer presents the moral values of this study. In this research the writer focuses on analyzing the characterization and moral values based on Minderope's theory. The writer uses a descriptive qualitative method. The result of this research shows the portray of characterization of Chihiro those are: 1). Characterization through the use of the name: Chihiro has the meaning of a great girl's name, which is evidenced by her characterization of being patient, optimistic, strong, and kind hearted. 2). Through the appearance of the character: Chihiro is described as a girl who looks small, thin and looks weak from her physical appearance. 3). Characterization through the author's depiction: characterization of Chihiro based on the writer's speech she is a girl who is polite, brave, responsible and sincere in doing anything. The second writer concluded that the moral values of Spirited Away are: Never be motivated by your greed, show your gratitude and say thank you to people who have helped you, she importance of building relationships with others.
